When Your Bank Goes Bust…Run! Or… How Congress Already Stole Your Savings.

By: Brett Redmayne-Titley

“It is easier to rob by setting up a bank than by holding up a bank clerk.”

                                                                                                            – Bertolt Brecht

Daily, a thus distracted public is told that the financial patsy for the growing worldwide economic disaster is simply a virus. As Americans fearfully watch passively as the US Congress throws the ever-mounting trillions in Bail-out funds so quickly at the feet of their puppet masters, the paltry cash reserves of all American bank depositors have never been more at risk.

“I’m sorry, Sir. We are unable to cash this check,” were the rather ominous words delivered to me by a fresh-faced, none-too-friendly, Wells Fargo Bank assistant manager. He had just kept me waiting ten minutes while in consultation with others about my pending transaction. Returning to his Wells’ colored cubicle he sat down quickly, straightened in his chair and then looked at me intently through narrowed eyes before delivering the bad news.

Four feet away, between us and in front of him, were three forms of my personal identification face up. Looking down, this budding banker particularly glowered at two personal checks, also laying on the desk before him, written to me as payment by a client and drawn on his bank. Not being a “Wells” customer I had expected a shake-down, hence I had brought with me multiple forms of ID including passport.

These two checks totalled the small sum of almost US$8,000.00. Not expecting this much difficulty I insisted on a reason, to which he now looked up from once again carefully considering the two checks and replied, “I’m sorry, but the bank does not have sufficient funds on-hand to cash these checks.”

Oh, dear.

Trapped! (You, too.)

By: Brett Redmayne-Titley

“The simple step of a courageous individual is not to take part in the lie.”  ― Alexander Solzhenitsyn

To divorce one’s self- finally- from nationalistic illusionary comfort. There is no harder decision any world citizen will ever make. To “up and go” is a decision that pits one’s developed reason against that propaganda; self-preservation against nationalism, fact against friend, and history against ignorance. These conflicts boil together night after night when one’s mind wrangles throughout with this grinding web of conflict thus further inspired by an acute understanding of past deeds and surreptitious capitalist motives perpetrated by an Empire gone mad.

Within another sleepless night, whilst again wrestling with the incredible facts of this new “crisis” being incubated by an acute understanding of the draconian history of “exceptionalism,” in the dead of night one’s own faculties also come into question within the all-enveloping gloom.

“Hollow” Victory in Iraq: The American Empire Takes Another Beating.

By: Brett Redmayne-Titley

Today’s announcement of an American “Victory” in Iraq uses the same flawed definition that was, then,  attached to America’s 1973 demise in Vietnam. Again, this hollow word will be used to turn defeat in Iraq, and ultimately in Afghanistan, into another questionable retreat called victory.

Objectivity requires the last eleven years in Iraq to be described as it has been; A historical blunder at best; A national disaster at worst.

As the last troops allegedly leave( over 13,000 “advisers” remain) the results of this victory are indeed clear; A ransacked U.S. economy; a far less stable Iraq, America’s global influence at its weakest,  Hatred of American values increasing in most of the world, American citizen’s civil rights striped away, and a second recession seemingly unavoidable. Listening to President Obama triumphing one of his, oh-so-few,... Read More

Women Voter’s Show Their Anger: Occupy San Diego Protests Darrell Issa Fundraiser

By: Brett Redmayne-Titley

In reaction to Congressman Darrell Issa’s  (R-CA) abusive use of his chairmanship of the House Oversight Committee Occupy San Diego called for a protest. Issa had, this past week, used his Chairmanship of the House Oversight Committees to call for a panel investigation on proposed legislation regarding contraception health care coverage. The congressman ignored requests by all female members who wished to address the panel on a woman’s reproductive rights, notably Ms. Sandra Fluke. Ms. Fluke was later called a “slut” by conservative talk show host, Rush Limbaugh, because of her efforts to speak as the sole woman representative.

Beginning at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, seventy-five citizens from the North County area of San Diego, Calif. converged on the Shadowridge Country Club, in the town of Vista, where Rep. Issa was scheduled to speak to G.O.P. supporters... Read More

Broken American Democracy/ The Issa Campaign 2012 (PART FOUR)

By: Brett Redmayne-Titley

The culmination of the congressional primary race for California 49th district ended with the closing of the polls at 850 8:00 PM. By 8:15 PM the election, due for November, also ended.

With the release of the absentee/right in ballots the two options for November were, once again, Republican and Democrat. The independent candidate had garnered a mere 7 1/2%. Without so much as a lawn sign, and, a lackluster effort the Democratic option, Jerry Templeman, had managed 32% of the. Just like last election Darrell ISA, conservative Republican darling, and champion of all things GOP, gained 62%. This despite insulting women on his personal national stage known as the congressional oversight committee. The GOP women didn’t care.

Like so many other local, state, and congressional races the outcome, five months hands, isn’t worth attention. Damn, the winds of change.... Read More

Broken American Democracy/ Covering the Darrell Issa Campaign.(PART THREE)

By: Brett Redmayne-Titley

With precious days to go in the primary campaign to unseat conservative California Congressman Darrell Issa independent candidate Dick Eiden is busy. It’s 9:15 AM and he and a volunteer are putting out “Eiden for Congress” signs on Encinitas Boulevard, a major through fair in North San Diego County. During interviews and debates Eiden has spoken of the chances of an independent candidate unseating the California 49th district incumbent. True to his fourty year legacy in civil rights issues Eiden has been busy. He is running a grass roots campaign in keeping with “old school politics.” Everyone is undrestimating this election” he says.

Will a registered voter demographic of 42% Republican, 32% Democratic, and 22% independent, mathematically, Issa can lose. But it will be a tough battle best suited to a tough-minded independent who can draw... Read More

Broken American Democracy/ Covering the Darrell Issa Campaign.

By: Brett Redmayne-Titley

Any hopes of an apology to women from California 49th district republican candidate Darrell Isa were dashed within 30 seconds of his arrival when the keynote speaker looked out at 90 plus women and quipped “where are the women !!”

On the street outside the Carlbad Hilton 30-40 protesters, men and women, reminded Issa of their opinion about women’s contraceptive and reproductive rights. This protest was inspired by the independant candidate for Issa’s district, Dick Eiden, who had hosted a “sign making” session at his campaign office the night before. These sign waving protester let Issa, and the attendees of the luncheon, know that they were outraged by his abuse of his Chairmanship of the House Oversight Committee.

Further fractures to America’s Democratic condition were evident when the California congressman, and champion of all... Read More

Present for the forum where Jerry Templeman, the Democrat, and to independents, Dick I didn’t and Alvin Novacek. None are seasoned politicians and all lack Isis political and financial muscle. Death of Democracy Brings Capitalism to Myanmar

By: Brett Redmayne-Titley

On Dec 2, 2011 U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton brought a face of American democracy to Myanmar. In reality Mrs. Clinton was offering the ” kiss of death” for Aung- San-Suu-Kyi’s attempts at democracy; Globalization. Democracy as branded by current American interests is simply and purely, capitalism now being presented to an impoverished Myanmar as globalization, privatization, and corporatization. This flawed, tragic ideology will surely bring to Myanmar this same 3 billion inherent negitive consequences shown in the current American “democratic” condition at home.

It’s been 50 years since America had a presence in Burma, which became Myanmar in 1989.Despite Mrs. Clinton’s visit, and her trumpeting of small democratic suceesses in Myanmar, this democracy will never become what Aung San Suu Kyi would like to see from a democracy... Read More
