Broken American Democracy/ The Issa Campaign 2012 (PART FOUR)

By: Brett Redmayne-Titley

The culmination of the congressional primary race for California 49th district ended with the closing of the polls at 850 8:00 PM. By 8:15 PM the election, due for November, also ended.

With the release of the absentee/right in ballots the two options for November were, once again, Republican and Democrat. The independent candidate had garnered a mere 7 1/2%. Without so much as a lawn sign, and, a lackluster effort the Democratic option, Jerry Templeman, had managed 32% of the. Just like last election Darrell ISA, conservative Republican darling, and champion of all things GOP, gained 62%. This despite insulting women on his personal national stage known as the congressional oversight committee. The GOP women didn’t care.

Like so many other local, state, and congressional races the outcome, five months hands, isn’t worth attention. Damn, the winds of change. The 49th district shows how fractured American democracy has become. What makes this malignant political condition terminal is the American voter and his willful ignorance. This ignorance of the ignorant voter dooms America to its next inevitable step. American Authoritarianism.

Attending two debates in maintaining a barely visible campaign got Templeman second-place and a chance to stay there and be sacrificed to the conservative, ISA year. The DNC already gave up and will provide no funding despite this being the most funded election cycle in history. Internet or via Templeman seemed resigned to his fate as the last five offerings. He offered standard DNC rhetoric and had little specifics to offer on any subject. He did have assurances. Primarily, Templeman, hopes to draw donations from enough angry women to be effective. Again, the ignorant voter will certainly let him down. It is doubtful that ISA will run any campaign at all. Thanks to the ignorance of the voters, democracy, in this congressional district, is over.

This was evident in brief interviews conducted with the voters at various locations around the district on election day June 5, 2012.

It was quickly obvious that ISA would went. The unofficial tally had is three quarters for the incumbent. “ISA”, said the majority one question, but it’d so immediately, with confidence and with the appearance of pride. Few answered Republican. They knew exactly who they wanted. Suspecting a lack of further depth by these same voters all were asked about the citizens United case. This is the landmark Supreme Court decision allowing corporations to be considered people. The net result being a flood of First Amendment, “free speech”, cash infusions infections of the elections. This decision, almost 3 years old, one would assume to be common knowledge to any person making intelligent use of their democracy. Au contraire.

Not one voter, Republican or Democrat, immediately recognize the reference to this landmark decision. When prompted with “corporations are people” only one was reminded. He, too, had no opinion but did promise to look into it further.

Previously, at eight women’s Republican Federation lunch many women interviewed were asked if they had concerns about ices regard for women’s contraceptive issues. Although, some were somewhat familiar, none were concerned about the Congressman’s national fiasco.

Interviewing the Democrats who exited the polling booths gave further pause for concern. When asked who they voted for not a single voter, although, admittedly being Democrats, knew the name, settlement of the person they had moments before voted for. The questions send them fumbling, politely, who their voters handbooks for the name of the person representing their tiny fragment of democracy. Such is the current state of the foundation, the voter, of democracy and any hope for change.

The only fundamental about democracy that can trump the almost complete assault on its actual meaning is the will of the intelligent voter. Ignorance, it continues to appear, has replaced this last chance. American democracy, it would seem, is different. Doomed

The Wisconsin gubernatorial recall election again illustrates what those of us capable of ordered.have to fear from those who do not. Despite the collective efforts of labor, education, and the unions, all of which are under attack by the Walker ask factions across this country Walker one again. This would not have happened without many voter voters actually voting against the interests provided to them, individually, with the most benefit.

When stupidity trumps selfishness its assigned that conservatives are really doing a good job.

In Wisconsin, and the 49th district, Imperial evidence shows the voter cannot, or is it best, unwilling, to understand the issues that should be important to them and certainly to others. Yet, it is the voter who is the only part of America’s remaining democracy that could trump a purchase presidency, traitor-ish Congress, and conservative ask activist judiciary. All of these three branches of government, although designed as checks and balances, are by endless example, in the back. Only the voter can demand attention to their opinion by using their vote. Protest is becoming illegal as discontent rises exponentially.

If voters can be counted on, but conservatives, to vote against their own long-term happiness and to ignore conservative legislation as important as citizens United what is to become of democracy?

Before the Democratic party was also purchased it was the liberal counterpunch to the Republicans and their opposite agenda. Now that the Democrats cannot be counted on by the voters to stop conservative selfishness only the voters can, politically, stop it. But with nary the understanding of its own political fundamentals, and less specifics, what chance is there of the voters stopping the conservative element who represent the concerns of AIPAC Alec military industrial complex the pharmaceutical industry the healthcare lobby and most things corporate. Given this ignorance such fascist legislation as the recent MDA (which amongst other nefarious laws of the land allow for the detention of American this is American citizens without charge indefinitely without the right to habeas corpus) or the coming TTP, which will strip America of its sovereignty its laws of its own land, in favor of a high authority of corporate jurisdiction over our resources. This new act of congressional treason will be buried by the press, remain secret by the president, and then quietly passed by the Congress. There is little chance of stopping this without the informed voter.

The American voter tired for a steady diet of two jobs, undervalued mortgage, daycare, traffic, coffee, and red Bulls and fattened to the point of exhaustion by government induced layer of corn syrup has no attention span to spare for the realities of politics. Whatever, limited, divisive news comes their way is likely accepted since there’s is thanks to mainstream media no other viewpoint. Few know of will go in search of accurate independent news. Long ago this was the inherent concept in a representative government that puts the interests of the individual, via their vote, in the hands of elected representatives. But of coarse these representatives have long ago ceased to represent the best interests of their districts constituents.

Influence of the conservative element is strong enough to encourage wholesale, willful, hypocrisy of its fervently religious fundamental conservative base. Somewhere, buried in all these constituents Bibles is a version of the Golden rule. Sadly, this, too, is buried, in the minds of these same voters, right next to the citizens United decision. Doing to others as you would have them do unto you (just a reminder here) is replaced by ignorance of all principles except exposed by their Savior hero, Jesus, in favor of the doctrine of me, myself, and I. To find empathy for this flawed viewpoint these conservatives need only gravitate the likes of Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, some guy in Florida, Rick Perry, or perhaps Mike Huckabee. This deliberately ignorant opinion will likely manifests soon into a liking for more appealing leaders like, Taft, J.P. Morgan, and McCarthy. Certainly these will creative flavor for the tastier elements of Mussolini and Shimon Peres.

As the voter illustrates is ignorance via his the conservative powers take notice, and are emboldened. The level and pace of the war on civil liberties is increasing in the resistance of the voter is virtuous virtually nonexistent. Yes, the occupy movement claims to represent the 99%. This all truism, however is, is merely an ideal, understood by perhaps, 3%. This number, by sheer circumstance will grow but will slow pace of this growth be put down and minimalize by further anti-American legislation and restrictions on civil rights to assemble and protest. Big business is quickly trying to bring its agenda to fruition despite the voter. Considering the tangible ignorance of this flock their success seems likely.

The voter, again and again, tells the conservative element that they as blind sheep, are willing to have their leaders take them to slaughter.

The ISA campaign is effectively over. It was extinguished, like so many other campaigns across America, before it was a hopeful possibility. It will, literally, taken at act of revolution to rend the California 49th Congressional District from Republicans hands. Independent points of view, or candidates, have no platform past the primary which the voters ensure goes to the to usual antagonists. They have no in their minds other choice, or a willingness to vote for one.

Like lemmings to the sea, these sacrificial lambs, would just as soon as gravity becomes, suddenly apparent, look at their plummeting neighbor and ask, “where were we going?” Of course at this point the answerno longer matters.

Based on observations of the congressional campaign purportedly of Darrell ISA, there appears little chance that democracy democracy, that represents the true will of the American people, will not be usurped by corporate, conservative, military, and Israeli interests. It appears that it is now, time to exercise our “walking shoes of democracy”. This democracy is over.
